We spent two days in Boston
July 3rd, 2008 by LorraineIt’s hard to imagine that we left Orlando over a week ago and have been visiting with family and friends for almost two. But we have and it has been nice. My oldest sister who lives in Kansas City works in the Boston area several weeks out of every month and the middle one lives about 25 minutes outside of the city. My daughter and I have been coming every summer for the past six years, but we never have stayed in the city.
This year we decided to spend a few days touring Boston before heading out to my sister’s summer house at Lake Waukewand for our usual summer vacation. My daughter just spent a year studying America history and this was a great chance to see it up close and personal.
We flew Jet Blue from Orlando to Boston’s Logan Airport. I love Jet Blue. It’s one of those commuter airlines like Midwest or Southwest. It is easy to make reservations online. Prices are always reasonable and they send e-mail reminders the day before the flight. There’s plenty of legroom and a TV at every seat. They served complimentary soft drinks and snacks. We were very comfortable for our three hour flight.
I’m always surprised when my daughter gets to a new big city. I forget that she’s an island girl and not used to the hustle and bustle and smell and noise. It takes her a short while to adjust and then she’s ready to rock and roll. We stayed in a very small hotel right in the middle of everything.

On Tuesday we met former Wai’anae High School teacher Caroline Buhl (used to be Wigan) and her two kids for a morning Duck Tour and an afternoon at the Museum of Science.

We loved the Duck Tour. It was about an hour and a half, covered the main points of interest in the city and along the Charles River, and the guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The kids did not get bored, we quacked at people on the street and even got a chance to drive if we wanted to.

I’ve noticed they have started a Duck Tour in Honolulu and would assume it is just as fun. Has anybody been on one?
The Museum of Science was great too. It is filled with hands on, interactive exhibits that kept our kids busy for hours. It was perfect for us so we could catch up and talk story.
Day one in Boston ended with a nice dinner of oysters and scallops and Lobster on the wharf at Legal Seafood and a quick walk in the rain.
