Still cluckin' about the turducken...
November 27th, 2009 by LorraineIf you asked me, I'd say it was somewhat anticlimactic. If you ask my husband, he'd say it was awesome. So I am satisfied with our turducken experience.
It probably would have been crazy if I had deboned and stuffed all of the birds myself. But I ordered it ready to go. The hardest part was probably picking up the creation on Wednesday evening in Kahala and driving through the pouring rain back to Kapolei.

We decided that since this was our first turducken experience that we would also cook a turkey breast so that all the non duck and white meat eaters would be sure to have enough. So I got up at 5 am on Thursday to cook a 9 pound breast for several hours and put the turducken in the oven around 8 am.

I followed the instructions from Whole Foods and it went exactly as planned. It was done by noon giving me enough time to cook the side dishes and serve our meal by 3 pm. The turducken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. If I were to do it again I would use more seasonings, but it was still delicious.

If I were to be completely honest, I would say that I prefer our turkey last year. It was a big bird and we brined it in salt water the night before. That was the juiciest fowl I have ever gobbled up.

Thank goodness our day was about more than just the meal. Several soldiers from the WTB who don't have family in Hawaii joined us as well as local friends and family. We took this opportunity to remember all that we have for which to be truly thankful. It makes everything all the more delicious.
Hope your day was pleasant and the rest of the weekend is just as good.

Looks great. I've never tried to cook turducken because I've always loved turkey so much. I also enjoy duck. So why not if you found it that easy to follow directions. And thanks for sponsoring the folks without families.

That's a lot of meat! Looks delicious, too. I am determined to try one at some point--hopefully I can convince the family in time for next year's feast!
Thanks for the pics!

My family has always talked about having a turducken and after many years of talk we're serious, so that's what we'll be having next year!
